My motor is quite dirty cover in black goop. I was wondering if I could power wash my engine? (engine cold or hot?) any good cleaner to use? I have a leak some where and trying to locate it.
Don't hit the IP if it's hot, and make sure you don't get water down the intake. Also, I'd dry if off when you're done.
Honestly, if you can, I'd take it to a car-wash place which has engine cleaner. Worked wonders for me; cleaner, let it soak, then pressure-wash it off.
If you have one close by, just drive. If not, might be an idea to drive close to the car wash, say, to a restaurant or something, pop the hood and let it cool off for a while, then drive the short distance to the car wash and do it. You just want to make sure the IP and everything else isn't really hot.
Also, I'd take a nice drive after you're done, to get the water off the engine and prevent rust(especially as water will pool down under the intake manifold; and you don't want it to seep through the CDR-tube down into the oil).
and don't freak out when the temp light stays on after cleaning the engine.
water tends to get into the sending unit and shorts it out, keeping the light on until it dries out. on my trucks that usually took 2-3 days.
