for years i have always washed/cleaned my gas engines either at a car wash or at home by spraying a bottle of 409 or simple green then rinseing with water.
any reason the same can't be done with this diesel ?
You're not suppose to wash IP when its has been running at regular temps...you're supposed to wait till it cools down....thats the only warning I have ever read.
When I have time, there is a car wash just down the street from me.
First start of the day I drive down there and wash the engine bay and engine.
But the engine temp is lower than the wash water at the car wash when I get there.
The only thing you have to watch is spraying cold water on the IP when it is hot.
When the engine is cold or barely warm, spray it all off.
I have washed down my engine and the "water in fuel" lite comes on and after a few minutes it goes off. Is this normal or am I seeing something that should concern me?
As susceptible as these trucks can be to wiring problems, I'd think twice before putting
water under the hood. I had an 86 gasser that I gave away because I got tired of problems
with bad connections everywhere under the hood.
That said, I'd rather work on a clean engine any day...
