It's not new, but it's new to me. The Clorox oxygenated powder cleaner is good stuff. It's the same type of cleaner as OxyClean, but less expensive. I found some nasty dried algae in the inside corners or my 78 F150 brake lenses and front parking lenses. I put a couple scoops in each lens assembly and let them soak in a sink of very hot water overnight. The hotter the water, the better the powder cleans. As the powder reacts with the water it bubbles and fizzles it's way into the creavices and breaks up the algae. In the morning I washed the inside and outside of the lense assemblies with hot running water and voila', clean lenses and no ill effects from the cleaning powder!
I was wondering how long it would take for one of the mainstream cleaning supply producers to duplicate the "OxyClean" stuff and drive the $$ down. It is still probably 10X more expensive than it should be for off the shelf stuff. But then again, most of that off the shelf stuff is 10X+ more expensive than it should be due to advertising and distribution.
Your tip is one more weapon we can add to our "arsenal of tools"
The active ingredients in Oxyclean are sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide. You can replicate this by mixing ordinary laundry soap with a little baking soda and adding a little liquid hyrdrogen peroxide to your soap solution at the time of use.

Too cool!!
You can also get rid of that algae in you light by using water and denture cleaner as it works the same way.
Algae? Where do you guys live, Atlantis?
I have had problems with a yellow film on the composite headlight covers and Bon Ami works real good for removing it. About 10 minutes per side and the cover looks like new.
Thanks on the recipe for Oxy-clean.

Don't have a problem like that here. I don't even use regular water in my radiator here deep in the heart of Texas. To much lime in it. I always use softened or bottled water in my truck to keep stuff srom building up inside the system. Gotta keep my wife from opening her hood so she'll stop putting the regular stuff in the washer tank. It drys and leaves spot everywhere. I hate when she does that.
