The down spout out of the water pump is where. I tried to turn it and the head broke off. I tried to heat it up, that didn't work. I soaked it in PB Blaster overnight and was no help. I tried drilling it and it's a hardened bolt, 10.9 . Any pros got any idea ? I'm working on this in my driveway. What a mess I made.
is the shank of the bolt exposed?
if so get a nut that will slide over it and weld it on to the shank, I weld them hot and a lot so it super heats the bolt, let it cool below red hot put a wrench on it and wiggle it, if it moves any just walk away and let it cool to almost cool to the touch than flood it with pb blaster to cool it all the way than start moving it in and out while flooding with the pb until it comes out.
The bolt broke very close, I may get the pump off and then I may just buy another pump. I don't know how old this one is. I might have one eight inch on it. My 97 truck never gave me this much trouble. I'm begining to think this truck was flooded a long time ago. So many stuck and rusted bolts for only 265 k. I 've never had one that was this stuck. I even got a HPOP line stuck, but I can cut it off.
The pumps are rumored to go out about every 130K to 140K miles. I just had the 2nd replacement at 275K. If this happened to Stinky with those miles on the pump, I'd pull the pump and start over... as well as a new thermostat housing.
This would be a great opportunity to put in an international pump with built in filter housing...
If you are having this much trouble with the one bolt... if it were me, they would all be replaced. I usually have good luck finding bolts for these engines at lowes. Each hole would get a bottom tap run in to clean the rust out of the thread roots... then treated with anti-seize.
