bolt broke in water pump. what now???

bolt broke in water pump. what now???

so i went to go replace my thermostat today and i noticed that there was a 10mm bolt and a two 8mm bolts, so i took the front two off but the back one broke in the water pump. i think that some one put the wrong bolts. there was also all kinds of silicone. i dont know what to do any sugestions

You could go get a helicoil kit but for all the trouble involved I'd sooner replace the pump. Replace the water neck too since someone else had to silicone it in the past. That's a good sign it won't seal any more.

Either do what rr said or drill it out. I drilled mine when i broke one of the bolts swappin my tstat as well.

I broke mine off, so I took the water pump off (not a hard job really, and cheaper than a new pump) drilled it out, tapped a slightly larger hole and used SAE bolt upsidedown so it was a stud sticking up and jb welded the bolt in the hole. I filed a flat spot on the underside so the bolt head could not turn.
So now you have a stud sticking up in back and you just drop a lock washer and nut on and never have a problem again. It worked so well I wanted to do the same thing to the other 2 but said to heck with it.

Another vote here to just get a new neck, don't fight the old one, it's not worth the $40 savings to always battle the leak.

Well thanks for the advice thats what i was thinking i had to do, and the old pipe is junk im buying a new one when i get to working on it. i am just going to drill it out and weld a bolt in there, similar to what you did, well thanks ill update how it goes
