I logged onto Fordowner.com and signed up my trucks and it says my EX is not affected, but man, the list is confusing.... It seems like it is everyone and their mother affected.

Is there any way to get an OASIS report on our vehicles without calling the dealership? Maybe when we sign our units up on fordowner.com that is basically what it is doing.
My 2002 had previously had the recall done. When I bought her, the current switch had failed and was leaking oil. The fuse was blown. Only problem is that when they routed the wires, it left an oil leak path for the leaking brake fluid to get to the main wire bundle. luckily I didn't have another short anywhere to generate heat.
Can you explain this for those of us that might have this fix installed and still have some risk as to HOW it was installed? Should be looking for leaking Brake Fluid?

Like I posted, I didn't think your rig was affected because everything I've read on the 'net say's the 6.0's aren't included.

The only thing I saw that was confusing was the document singling out the '03 and '04 Lightnings, when the recall also includes the '99, '00, '01, and '02 Lightnings too.
And yeah, the switch was used on a lot of Ford vehicles for 10 years, based on what I've read on the 'net.

OASIS is a very comprehensive information database Ford keeps.
Along with recall info, the database includes all the warrantee work ever done on a Ford vehicle serviced at a Ford dealership, going back the last 10 years.

Ford is the only place I know of that you can get the harness. It's free, so why would you want to buy it someplace else?
Stewart
I was just curious, I am stationed down in Louisiana, and don't know the dealerships around here that well. That's the only reason I would ask if the harness was available for me to do myself. I have never had any kind of recall work done, as I don't usually acquire a vehicle until it is around 15 years old, lol I never take anything anywhere to get worked on. I will call the dealers around and see what they are like. Thanks guys.
That has nothing to do with it. The 7.3L PSD has hydroboost braking too.
The recall has nothing to do with the type of braking system a vehicle has.
Stewart
Yes the 7.3L has hydoboost too. But I was stating (via the quote that I was referring to) that the vehicle that had the FIRE has a 6.0L and uses a different switch then the 7.3L according to the Ford catalog. That is why it (the 6.0L) doesn't have the recall at this time.

The document was taken right off the recall page on FMCDealer's page but I did see the problem so I corrected it.
The 2003-2004 Lighting listing is because of Ford having two body styles of the F150 in 2004.

Thanks!
Yes. You should keep an eye on the switch even after the recall has been done.
These are very difficult and confusing Recalls.
REASON FOR THIS RECALL
The underhood Speed Control Deactivation Switch (SCDS) may overheat, smoke, or burn, which could
result in an underhood fire. The potential for a fire exists regardless of whether speed control is being
used or the engine is running.
The Recall states that if the switch is leaking at the time you bring the vehicle in to a Ford dealer they will replace the switch at NO CHARGE. BUT if it is NOT leaking than the Ford dealer will add the harness to the vehicle. And that doesn't mean that the switch may or may not start leaking at a later time. That is when the harness should do its job by shorting out and blowing the fuse so that there is not an electrical charge to the leaking fluid which than could start a fire.
Plus the first Recall (05S28)had in some cases the wrong harness configuration and didn't work for all vehicles.. That is one reason 09S09 came out with a updated harness.
So the OP never said what the cause of the fire was. It is real bad and it is a shame to have anyone go thru it. Still popcorn is running out and folks wanna know, What was the cause? If you were closer I would come by and help with the rebuild. Semiretired and bored.
Yes the 7.3L has hydoboost too. But I was stating (via the quote that I was referring to)...
Hey....wait a minute! You went back and added the quote!! That wasn't there before because if it had been, your post woulda made all kinds of logical sense.
Yup, you went back and added it....that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Not sure I follow the logic there.
I understand what you're saying (I think), but if the Lightning needed to be highlighted because of the Heritage MY design, one would expect only the '04 Lightning to be singled out, no?
And even if for some reason the Heritage MY design caused the Gen 2 L's to be singled out, wouldn't it cause less confusion if Ford had just listed all the years of the Gen 2 L's?
But then again, that's too logical and simplistic for Ford to do.

I hear ya on that one!
I rolled the dice for many years and refused to take my rigs to the dealership to have the recall done because (it's a long story) I didn't want them doing to the recall on my black CPS too, grabbing my sensor.
I got lucky though. My son ended up working for Ford for a period and I gave him the VIN's of all of my rigs and he got the service manager to give him the harness and show the recall as being done.
I even got the "updated" grey CPS' for my rigs (which will never be installed) and had that recall taken care of in OASIS too!

Quote was always there. I just did a Copy and paste of the recall listing that came from Ford. Not sure why they listed the 2003 Lighting with the 04 either.
Most don't understand the "Gen 2" stuff including some Ford employees cause the don't list it that way in any of the Ford catalogs....
