SCT tuner ?

My F350 currently has the edge juice tuner. I have been driving with it on either stock mode to monitor the gauges or #1 milage mode. Is this safe?

Also, if I were to want to add a SCT tuner, Which model should I choose and can I keep the edge monitor as well and leave it on stock mode for monitoring EGT's etc.....

Do the SCT tuners come pre-tuned? Can someone give me a website? Are they easy to install?

I have been running the edge juice for almost two years and have really had no complaints. Kept it on stock much like you so I could monitor the engine. I just recently switched to the SCT Livewire and what a difference.

It does come preloaded with several tunes and options for your truck. I just loaded the least aggressive (street) tune and have been running that. It also has tunes to change your tranny to help the tranny with the new power and protect it. Also, like the attitude monitor, you can set it up to monitor the engine vitals. It actually has more options to monitor than the edge. Like the edge, you will have to buy a temperature probe if you want to monitor the EGT's.

I can't wait to do some serious towing this summer and load the towing and jake brake tunes. All in all, I think the SCT Livewire is the way to go.

Best part about the Livewire, you can just pull it out by unplugging it from the OBD port. Unlike the edge where you have to remove the battery and disconnect it from other engine compartment sensors.

The downside to the SCT is that it is not a shift on the fly tuning. You have to flash your computer and it will take 5-10 minutes depending on the flash. It is easy to do, but not quite as conventient.

Hope this helps.

Shift on the Fly is the worst thing for the 6.0. Your really not tuning the transmission or the ECM, your just fooling the sensors. I don't care if they did have defuel option or not. In order to properly tune the 6.0 ECM and TCM, you have to do where you individually load a tune one at a time and the engine is off. Period.

I use the Edge Juice and Evo to monitor only. I made the swich to SCT due to fear of damaging my trany. First off if you have it on Stock to 1 ur not going to damage anything or if you do i would be surprised. If you want to tune ur truck and stay safe (I dont know if safe and tune should be used in the same sentence) I would go SCT with custom tunes. In order to load the tunes on the truck with the Edge you have to unplug ur Edge Juice and reprogram ur truck then plug it back in.

Depending on how you drive it, you can damage the 6.0 even in stock form, so having any type of tuning even on level 1, you can do some damage even to the tranny let alone even keeping the Edge on stock setting.

You can have tuning and safe in the same sentence especially with custom tuning as you can actually de-tune the truck from even stock hp/tq settings(which people argue already push the engine in stock form), so you can have both. Not many do it that way, but the point is that you can.

where do I get the custom tunes from and how does the SCT plug into the truck? Do I keep the edge on stock for monitoring purposes only and use the SCT to select which program I want to run?

how much is the SCT and which model would I go with?

Innovative Diesel or Spatan Free tunes are a couple that alot of people use on this site. The SCT plugs in to the data port under the dash. Yes you keep the Edge on stock and use the SCT to reprogram. I got my SF3 for 380 but some are higher if you get their tunes with it. I would stay away form Livewire, ive heard that it has problems and if you already have the edge to monitor you dont need all the extra stuff that the Livewire does. (just my .02) I could be wrong but it sounds like you dont realy understand the SCT programers. The livewire plugs in to the data port and monitors the truck (from what i understand i have no personal exsperiance) simular to the Juice but not in line. The other tuners (X3 or SF3) are hand held, they plug in and reprogram then unplug, you dont leave them in.

btw, Tex is right I was just saying its alot safer than runing it in level 5 all the time no matter how you drive.

yep i do the same as 06powerstroke, I like Eric at innovative diesel, great service and your imagination is the limit for a custom tune. Make the switch, as a person who has gone from edge to sct i promise you will like it.

did your SF3 come with any pre-programed tunes? Where are these websites with the custom tunes available?

What you'll have to do is get the strategy off your truck with the SCT device. Find the section of tunes that match your strategy and then download those tunes and enjoy.

If you go with Innovative(which is a very good company to deal with) then you'll still need your strategy handy for them to write tunes specifically for you, so either way you'll need that set of numbers and letters.

I tryed them on the way to walmart to get the printer cable required to load the tunes form the computer to the tuner and the preloaded tunes were better than Edge but not as good as Spartans. If you have a SCT programer i dont know why you would use the preloaded tunes insted of Spartan's, i mean come on they dont cost anything!

He does not do them anymore. The free tunes are it as far as what Matt does with the SCT. He is working on his new tuner and it isn't compatible with the SCT program files. Second best alternative would be Innovative unless you can hold out til Matt's tuner.
