Hi, I am in need of a new clutch, so i went into napa and asked them for a clutch set for a zf-5. The guy said I have to either have to convert to a single mass or replace the dual mass. Is this true? I know a replacement dual mass would be close to a grand I am really just trying to get a new clutch in before hay season as cheap as possible. thanks,
Kyle.
Either way is going to be expensive.
You could also try going to a junk yard and see if you can't pick something up that will work well enough for a while -- it sounds like this isn't a daily driver, so if you can get something that'll work for a few thousand miles, you'll be good.
What problem are you having with your clutch? you can reuse the duel mass part if it is not messed up and check out rock auto.com Napa is expensive and the quality of parts isn't great
DM flywheel is a ticking time bomb. You'll pay a LOT more later if you continue to use it, and it grenades the tranny case. Leverage the time/effort/money invested dropping the tranny and do it now; it'll save you in the end.
Dual Mass can be a real pain in the *** to get resurfaced, alot of places dont want to do it... and in all honestly I agree with most of the above comments, all it is is a ticking time bomb... there is hardly any real need for the Dual Mass and the Solid Flywheel is the way to go. I can not tell you how many times I have seen destroyed transmissions from a Dual Mass going "Critical Mass" and blowing up... It's worth going to the Solid Flywheel while you are in there.
