Time for a New Clutch

I have an 88' F250 with a 5 speed manual. My clutch is starting to slip. My truck won't go any faster than 55, but the engine will rev higher. I talked to my mechanic. He said it will be around $700 or $1500 depending on whether the truck has a single mass fly wheel or dual mass fly wheel. If it has a single mass flywheel, he would only have to replace the clutch. But, if it has a single mass flywheel he recommended converting it to a single mass flywheel with a kit which would be more reliable. I plan on hauling scrap loaded triple axle trailers around this summer with this truck. Are his estimates correct? Is is recommendation correct? Also, should I have him replace anything else while the transmission is dropped?

First I would advise check all the clutch assembly and firewall by the booster for cracks and damage. If you intend to do over 10,000lbs hauling stay with the dual mass system. You may find the clutch levers on the DMFW are either worn or broken....... the TObearing and arms are also a major components and may be worn out. I would get the trans out first and check for the correct route of repair then.
