After many trips tugging a 11,000lb 5th wheel RV around, the stock clutch has began slipping. The truck has 111,500 on it so not to bad. Just started looking around and appears most like the Luk setups.
Question: do all of these trucks come with the dual mass flywheel? If so, any downsides to the single mass conversions. Also, any suggestions as to which kit is best for pulling. Not into drag racing or anything. Truck rarely moves without something heavy being dragged with it. Getting ready to attack some East Tn, western NC hills on the way to the beach and not fond of the variable RPM's I'm hearing right now.
I don't really want to put a fortune into a clutch, but I also don't want to have issues when I get the new one in. Any advice is appreciated.
even though i dont run them theres a number of guys in the club im in that run Valair, and they love them. and Dan the owner is a hell of a nice guy to deal with, after meeting him, and hearing about some of his customer service from other people, i wouldnt hesitate to buy from him.(if i had a standard) and on the plus side they are less expensive than southbend is, i think by a couple hundred if you get one straight from valair.
oh and to answer your question, no the superduties do not have a dual mass flywheel, so there would not be any conversion needed. it was only the OBS trucks that came dual mass.
Thanks for the input guys. Still shopping around at this point. Am I correct in thinking I only need to get the clutch replacement kit and not the one that includes the flywheel? It hasn't been slipping long so hoping I can turn the flywheel if needed.
If you don t get fly wheel then MUST get yours turned to the clutch man. specs or no warranty. Also get new fork and kevlar bushing not bearing. Get new fly wheel bolts also . I have south bend and very happy. Have pulled alot and no issues at all . I love the fact that it dosnt slip at all. Positive engagement to the point it will make you choke down a few times empty, however most people wont tell you that but it will for sure ! If you get in a spot call its pretty easy for the most part. 478 952 8873
i have a southbend love it, i had a luk in the old truck it was good too.
for the most part i'd just get a kit with the flywheel it gaurentees no warrantyor other problems in the future
I've got a little over 133,000 miles on a LUK repset....so I know it a good clutch, but it's getting tired now. Smoked it pretty bad pulling stumps out the yard last weekend.
After reading Austins post I went to Valair's website to look around. Their clutches quite reasonably priced, especially for the stock replacement models. I think it will be worth my time to at least give them a call.

Scott, it will be WELL worth your time to call. Call and talk to Dan specificly and tell him Cody from Death Row Diesel sent you, and he'll make the price even sweeter. I think you will be quite impressed with the price, quality of clutch, and customer service. But this goes for everyone, call him, tell him I sent you, and he'll hook you up. Dan and I do alot of business and he always treats my guys right.
And I'm not saying anything bad about LUK or Southbend. Both great clutches, but my choice will be Valair every time.
Just ordered a clutch from Dan at Valair. Outstanding first contact. Would recommend you call if you are shopping. If the product is as good as the customer service so far, should be a good deal. Thanks for the tip. I'll report back when I get it in.
