You're not supposed to have to use any, the threads are supposed to be NPTF, the F being fuel. That being said I'm not sure teflon tape or teflon "dope" is fuel rated, but if you need something I would use the tape.

if you go to the alternative fuels section of FTE, they would rip you a new one for suggesting teflon tape. I say, whatever. I've used teflon tape on all my diesels for 7 years and never had a problem. The only thing I do is make sure there isn't an obvious amount of teflon tape on the fuel-side of the threads.

They make a fuel rated, oil rated teflon dope. Have to go to a plumbing out let to get it.

I've used the cheap white thread tape(teflon?) for fuel lines before, and it dissolves in the diesel. Or maybe a fuel additive dissolved it, who knows.

Since then, I've always used the gas-rated tape, which is designed for oils and gasses, etc. Works great on diesel too:
Shop Blue Hawk 0.5-in x 21-ft Plumber'S Tape at Lowes.com

However if the fitting is indeed NPTF then you shouldn't need any. Maybe the threads need to be cleaned and the fitting re-assembled.

thanks for the info, I know that the fittings aren't supposed to need sealer, but I'm not smart enough to figure out what angle to start them at to have them end up pointed in the right direction when they're tightened down.

If theyre brass esspecially they shouldnt need it. Ive never had any leaks with good old fashioned teflon tape. Not a fan of pipe dope. NEVER use pipe dope on female threads if you do use it though.

I usually use Rector seal No 7 for almost anything but oxygen:
RectorSeal® No. 7 » RectorSeal
It is available in the plumbing section at Home Depot or Lowe’s last time I looked
I have had to many brass to brass fittings leak with teflon tape.
Mark
PS. With any pipe dope mush it down into the threads Before you screw the fittings together only the first 2 or 3 threads all the way around is enough Be sparing it doesn't take much.
