I have a spare 360 and 390 FE.
I am pulling the 4bbl intake off the 390 and keeping a set of heads. Other than that how far do I have to tear down the motor for the scrap yard? I will be bringing to a metal yard and getting cash for weight. I just need to know if the entire motor is cast metal or if the yard will consider it mixed metal and give me less money for it.
You say spare motors. Are they out of spec. for rebuilds? If not why scrap cores that are getting harder to find every day. Just trying to get clarification. I have a standard bore 428 cj block that I really don't need but I would never let it go for scrap.
Help another FE fan out, list them on line or talk to a shop and see if they would sell it for you. FE stuff here is getting harder to find. I have 6 sets of head that I picked up and was told they were good and they were not. I did not pay for them. Blocks and cranks are getting to be that way too.
I'd pull the rotating assemblies at a minimum and throw them on Craigslist or something. The machine shop I use will buy core cranks and heads off FE's for more than scrap.
