I've heard, depending on the application, that its not bad.
I've even heard of carborator replacements that have a single injector in it, so it still looks like a carb, acts like a carb, but is electronically controlled.
I'm using a Howell kit. They've been selling them forever. It is throttle body injection. Uses GM hardware from 4.3L V6. The controls include an ECM, heated O2 sensor, coolant temp sensor, and a piggy backed VSS sensor. All GM stuff and they give you the part numbers so you can buy replacements inexpensively if needed. It is only a fuel delivery system. Does not control timing or advance. All original mechanical and vacuum for that. If you want to pass smog in CA, it is the only reasonable option.
Hope all the moms are having a good day. We have 2"-5" of snow forecasted today and 1"-3" tomorrow morning. Have certainly had a wide variety of weather since we've arrived.
The truck is DOA. Tried a SnapOn inspection camera and it only fits part of the way into the glow plug hole. Put the valve spring compressor on the exhaust valve on cylinder 1 and it moves up and down no problem. Put it on the intake valve and the valve is locked up. Tried hitting on it with a 3lb sledge with no luck. At the very least I'm going to have to get heads rebuilt. Looking for a machine shop this week to get pricing on the heads and a full rebuild. Thank the Lord my new position cane with a company truck.

The no start appears to be a bad IDM which I think was caused by a short on #3 injector. Also have a burned pin on the uvch plug for glow plug on cylinder 2.
The locked up valve is probably caused by me allowing a rag to get sucked into the intake spider. I believe the rag and valve are wedged in place against the valve seat. Will know more when I get the heads pulled.
