The early ones had a 144 cubic inch OHV engine, and that was upped to a 170 cu in around '62 or '63. They were notorious for having an inadequate rocker shaft oiling supply, and we installed a lot of supplemental oiling kits. They had a three-on-the-tree arrangement, and could hardly get out of their own way.
The USAF used a lot of them for flight-line vehicles, and I'm assuming it was because it was impossible to speed around the aircraft!
The guys using them were real hard on clutches, and we had an on-going contest to see who could change one the quickest. The record for two guys to change a clutch, from roll into the shop to drive out, was just under a half hour! That was in 1966 or '67.
