My Buzz-er delem-er

OK so the buzzer has 2 - 3 functions, the annoying "door open" buzzer, (this one works)....figures, will cut the green wire to shut it up later.

The one I want to work, the "headlights on" indicator does not.

Sooooo going through the electrical book, says the "lights on" buzzer only comes on with power (does not mention actual voltage) to the Red/Pink and the Brown. so I turn on the lights and open the door, no buzz. Check voltage, I have 10.7 in the red/pink and the brown.
When I bench test the buzzer, (12.8v) and hook up the red/pink and the brown and ground the black it buzzes.
I'm thinking bad ground? I will try a "fresh ground" right to the buzzer.
then a new wire from the driver door post switch right to the buzzer?
any other suggestions?

Clean out the switch in the door jamb, maybe even replace it.

Assuming, of course, your truck is in fact wired for this option.

My 1981 doesn't have key-in-ignition buzzer, I sometimes wish it did.

You need the analogue solution buddy - a kill switch lanyard

Does the switch itself have an issue with the ground as in the switch is bad?

I think I figured it out, Yes the truck is wired for it, And I get voltage to the two wires, (brown and the Red/Pink with the door open and lights on, But the actual buzzer does not have the metal tab to plug in the the brown wire. There must be a buzzer "with that option" vs the "plain" one I have.

Yes, there are two buzzers - one black, the other white. I forget which one is which, though.

Here is a youtube showing different types of buzzers.

I have a few spares black ones as the 7 pin ones are hard to find at the junk yards.

A lot of people remove the buzzer as they dont like the noise.

Here is another good read with part numbers for the 7 pin buzzer... that have the headlight ON buzzer.

Thanks for the video! I see there are 3 types of buzzers/chimes from that video. I have two of them from the junkyard: the large black one that chimes (where in the vid he says is from a Crown Vic), and a small white one that buzzes. I have not seen the small black one - the one that buzzes for lights on. That's the one I need to find. FTR, even though both black ones are 7-pin, the large one that I have does not give me a headlights on warning. Does this mean I have some other issue?

Re-configured the wiring on my original buzzer, (with the help of a relay) Now it buzzes when the lights are on, ignition off, and door is open.
Works great!

Nice. I was going to suggest swapping the door open and lights on buzzers. Oh well, you figured it out before I saw it. Good work

My truck used to have just the ignition buzzer. Then I added the headlights on buzzer, which is a completely different buzzer since the 80-82 trucks can have two different buzzers. Turn the ignition to on, turn the headlights on, and you end up with one of the creepiest sounds you'll ever hear. I like it.

Nice. Thanks for the posts. Mine doesn't buzz at all any more. The next time I'm at the JY I'll have to look for one.
