Door Switch question

I am trying to put kodiak sidewinders on my truck. I have them all mounted up and wired except for the "actuator" wire. I wanted to try to use the door switch built into the truck to trip a relay to ground out the "actuator" on the step. (BTW.. thats how the steps work. You put the actuator wire to ground to make the step come down). I do not want to use the ugly door switch they give you with the kit. Does anyone know of a wire that has voltage when the door is open? Also i want it side specific so the dome lite circut will not work.

Welcome to FTE!
What year is your truck?
Pull the factory door switches for the courtesy lights. If they are wired with both + & - leads, get the instructions out for the steps & splice into the ground lead of one switch. Then open the OTHER door. If I understand how the steps run, this should work.
