So I've gone through two sets of hooker gaskets yeah I know they're both paper so this time I want to get the right ones I was thinking copper was the way to go
But why don't one Summit racing.com there are so many choices
I have a 5.8 L Windsor and he wants to know all the stuff that I don't know could somebody help me out i'm guessing I just have to stock for setup since I have done nothing to the motor other then add headers
Don't use copper or MLS, to use those PROPERLY you need to have a ring scored in the block or the heads. Otherwise they'll leak.
From your signature you don't have a turbo or blower so you aren't producing much boost. These aren't the exact ones I have but this is what they look like, these are steel core laminate - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fe...view/make/ford
No sure how I got confused, it says Hooker Header Gaskets in the title, I just can't read
just scratch what I said above.
Anyway, for those gaskets I use ones that are the same type of material. I think I have an extra set at home and I'll see what the p/n is and post it. I have not had a problem with those. I think the material is a light type of steel foil with a paper/fiber inner core IIRC.
I was just talking to somebody the other day about this, He told me they used to use anti seize on the gaskets to help seal the gaskets and also a lot easier to remove the gaskets.
A lot of people are quick to blame the gaskets depending on what manifolds or headers you are running, the flanges are thin and they warp allowing the gaskets to leak.
Check the bolts after you install the headers for a week or two after. They can wiggle out if they aren't seated right and if they do that then they'll blow. I had that happen to me but once I corrected the lose bolts I haven't had an issue. If you check the bolts, torque them to specs. After a week or two they should be fine.
The gaskets supplied with headers like this are junk, any decent quality metalic lined gasket will work much better and be sure to follow Rikil's advice to retorque the bolt after several complete engine temperature cycles or a week's use.. whatever comes first.
Wouldn't another factor for choosing gaskets or reasons for blowing through junk gaskets be vehicle use? i.e. if you are always reving it way up playing off road it's going to get those headers a lot hotter than if it's just a DD. So would that require a different (more expensive) gasket for hotter temperatures?

I don't seem to have an extra set but I'm fairly certain this is what I have - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fel-1415/overview/make/ford
Use that as a reference for the material type. My port width and height may be different than yours.
