I have an external GPS with back-up camera. The 12 volt accessory plugs on the dash are always on. I want to connect to a switched 12 volt source, so I can leave my GPS plugged in all the time. Mfg. warns to unplug the unit before starting the vehicle, so always on connection is a pain (already trashed the adapter). The interior fuse box has several "spare" spots, but need to know a wire color I could tap into to provide switched power to the GPS. Please help.
Thanks.
Honestly if I were you I'd just tap the positive of your outlet into the ignition accessory wire. That way it'll charger whenever the key is on but automatically cuts power to the outlet when starting.
Thank you for the suggestion. Not sure why I did not think of that myself - duh!
I have not looked at the back of the ignition switch yet, but any idea what color that wire may be?
Actually I'm wrong. According to my sources your wires are (solid/stripe) brown/yellow and purple/green. Anyways, the wire should read positive when the key is on or acc neutral when starting or off.
Im looking to do the same thing with tapping into ACC wire but I want use it to power my 9 Switches . Can i use that acc wire or should I run a 12v supply to the switches? there is no amp draw only uses power to tell the relay to turn on? any thoughts will help
