91 trans question
i needed a transmission for my 91 bronco. i found one on craigsllist and threw it in. every thing went well. only i dont have first gear or overdrive. if i put the truck in drive i think im starting in 3rd and the rest on the selector im starting in second gear. could this be because the trans is out of a truck that had a 302 and mine is the 5.8 and the computers are not talking? i have checked the linkage quite a few times and i know that it is right. any ideas?

They might not be talking, but I would think that there isn't a major difference in shift points from a truck 302 vs a truck 5.8.
How many miles are on the new trans when you bought it? Was it rebuilt? Did PO have a receipt if it was?

Need more info. Your truck likely originally came with an E4OD, what transmission did you put back in? Are all the electrical connections plugged in or are there any wires left unplugged?

i dont rember the miles i did the swap several years ago ive just been driving like that. it wasent rebuilt it came out of a wrecked truck

the trans that went in was also a 91. yea its full. i dont know what a mlps is, is that something i can take out of my old tranny i still have it laying around

i do believe thats what i put back in, the oil pan was the same and the electronic plugs fit right on with no extra

the MLPS is the manual lever position sensor. Essentially it's the neutral safety switch right?

that has to do with starting not shifting. i can start in park or neutral
