Won't Come Out of Park

My 2001 won't come out of park. Fuse 15 is blown and pops as soon as I put a new one in. UNLESS I start it first and then put the fuse in and it works completely fine for "awhile".

Any thoughts? Stick with leaky windshield issue?

With the fuse blown do you have any brake lights? If not check the wires for the boo or brake on/off switch. It's up under the dash on the brake pedal arm. I know on the earlier trucks (97/98). The wires become brittle and can break off. They could be touching, causing a short. Which is what is blowing the fuse. Other wise check the fuse and fuse panel for signs of water. Something is causing a short.

Brakes

Yes. I do have brake lights when fuse is blown. It's very odd.

Then it sounds to me like you have a short in the wiring somewhere along the steering column. Does the fuse blow every time the vehicle is shut off?

The brake lights are on a different fuse, F13. Red herring.

Go unplug the connector for the pressure switch on the master cylinder and see if the short goes away. Does the connector have brake fluid in it? Did you ever have recall 05S28 performed?

If all is in order with the switch on the master cylinder or if the short persists with the switch disconnected, investigate the brake pedal switch itself as they've been know to short out internally.

I think so, but we've had so much rain here it's been difficult to go out and test without getting drenched - especially when rain is on the radar as a root cause for this.

It's clearer today so I'm going to do some testing with a couple packs of fuses and check out the master cylinder / recall situation.

Thanks to all of you so far - it IS appreciated...

bed fuse block

All late model expedtions up to and including 2003 had leaky windshield's and they leaked on to the fuse block. In bolt the fuse block pull out as far as you can look at rear with a mirror and you should see a mess like on the battery terminals that will need replaced.

Was just in my 04 fuse block. Says fuse #27 5A, is for
Compass module, Reverse sensing

system module, Brake shift

interlock solenoid, Overdrive

cancel switch, Air suspension

module (Run/Start sense)

Hope this helps.
