Do you have a transmission temp gauge? The few times mine has gotten HOT...250/270ish the shifts where very harsh. I am wondering if maybe you have a restriction in the cooler.
Clem- yes I have a temp gauge, temp has never been above 140 (only hit 140 once, most of the time its just below 125). I have the mag hytech pan, 6.0 trans cooler, so system holds almost an extra 10 quarts, plus better cooling.
Unfortunately due to the tranny shops not sticking to my appt. I am unable to get the VB looked at right now. But i will keep you guys updated when I can.
When ever we have transmission/shifting issues the best place to start that I've found is to remove the chip, disconnect the batteries for 30 min or so, then reconnect the batteries and drive the truck without the programmer for a few hundred miles giving the transmission time to readjust itself. Once this is done and the tranny is shifting an running normaly, then reconnect the chip and see how it drives. If it still shifts hard or banging thru the gears it'll be your tuner and it will need to be reburned or replaced. I had to replace a 6pos tuner a few years back. It shorted out internally and would make my truck shift really hard, and it would also kill the engine while driving down the road. So it does happen where a chip can go bad.
Hey guys, update on my truck. Trans shop did a line pressure test with chip installed and determined that the pressure is not dropping to 60 psi when it is supposed to at the moment of shift, my pressure is staying at 150 which is causing the slam. Sent the chip out to TS performance to be tested and they said it was good, but erased my custom tunes. The guys at PowerHungry performance are gonna take care of my tunes and re-test my chip under load to make sure the chip is good/bad. I'll update again after I get my chip back as I do not trust canned tunes for my truck.
To previous response, I had my chip out for a while and tested it after a 300 mile break. I reset truck by disconnecting battery and everything. One of the guys at PHP did say that it could still be the chip because many tuner places do not test them under load, so we will see.
