I have a 94 F-350, 7.3L, 5-speed Manual, VIN code K, Manufacture date 11/93 and the starter went out. I had replaced the starter with a Duralast starter part number DLG 5154, my problem is the fact that when I activate the starter, the gear does not touch the flywheel (I have my neighbor "attempt" to start the truck with me under it and flywheel cover removed). I have seen and followed the instructions in the posts on here about the same issue such as, checking and cleaning the connections, torqueing the bolts, checking and replacing the solenoid. Can someone help...?
just because the starter has the proper part number on it does not mean it is the proper starter. if the drive does not engage the ring gear, you need to return it and get the rite one.
1994 is a funky model year. It was the LAST model year of the IDI and the FIRST model year of the Powerstroke, so you have to be super-careful when picking the right engine in any computer database system. To save confusion, from now on just tell them you have a 93 turbo diesel. Parts are identical to your 94.
Wait, hold on. For giggles, I went into their system and made sure to choose EXACTLY the Year/Make/Model info you gave (I had to guess between 2WD and 4WD, but that doesn't matter).
A 1994 F350 VIN K shows DLG5154. Per this thread I found https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ine-codes.html, your VIN K is a turbo IDI. So, that means AZ's system is wrong. They have a Powerstroke starter listed for VIN K.
