big block motor mount location
Did you ever get any help on your engine mounting issue?? I am currently struggling with the same thing and our only difference is that I am using a tubular x member that I purchased from speeway. My question is where to mount the x member so that exhaust clears. I have some pictures that I found of your installation method if your interested.
tied up right now but later today I'll get home and get some measurements. I'm running a 460 with a Mustang II ifs.... that may or may not make a difference with your setup... also my radiator setup is different than stock... but my engine mounts put the rear of my valve covers about 1/2" from the firewall... back later

My email is abwhiting@hotmail.com and if you send me an email I will send what I have found. I cannot post those pictures because I only have them in a word document. They might not be of much help because they are for my application, original straight axle with stock suspension. But, they clearly show where to mount the motor with individual mounts on each side and Sanderson headers.
from the front edge of the front cab mount to the center line of my engine mount is 22-3/4"
that's with a 460 over a MII IFS

Thanks for your last post and it should help me as well as I also needed measurements from a known point. The pictures that I had collected allowed me to see "about" where to place my motor mounts.

the motor mounts just about center up the crossmember for the ifs.

My experience with electric fans is not good but maybe that was because of the car and the application. This is my second build and my first, '69 Mach 1 named Scarlet, had over heating problems from the start and I even had the biggest aluminum radiator I could buy. The only solution that worked was a mechanical fan AND an electric fan used as a pusher. Now she runs cool as a cucumber, even on 100 F days. So I will absolutley use a mechanical fan and I won't put an electric on unless I need to or if space is a problem with a mechanical. I have been around these old Fords all my life and my experience tells me that you could not get by with a flathead and an electric fan but I have seen people do it successfully. By the way, this is the very truck I learned to drive on almost 40 years ago and I was lucky enough to buy it from my Dad before he passed away in 2010.
We went into a bit of a hibernation but are back at it now. I have not started the motor build as I have been addressing strength of the frame first. I just recently build a K brace and added the original front motor mounts back in for support. Relocated my rear lower shock mounts as I am running a Ford 9". For a bit of added strength I am going with Monroe coil over shocks front and rear to handle the weight of the motor and I intend to pull my show car on a trailer. Getting ready to add a front and rear sway bar for corning and then after that I will finish coating my frame. I favor a product called POR 15 that I have had good luck with. Can't make up my mind if I want to get on the body work next and put the body back together (except for the doghouse) or do the motor build. I suspect that I will do the body work as I already have all the parts I will need and that is the cheaper route for now.
Good luck to you and I hope to hear from you. I it funny that I just got email notification that my post had a reply after over a year.
