Question Engine mounts not even

ok my new hurdle is that I'm working on putting in a 302 but when I have the engine between the frame rails and I have the engine mounts bolted on they don't line up even on the MII crossmember. I had first thought the crossmember was in crooked so I said a big prayer and got my tape measure out and prob measured 20 times from the CM to various points on the front of the frame and all were even. I did straight and cross measurements and all come out perfectly even. So today I went ahead and measured from the crossmember to the back of the frame (cross ways) and I used one of the 4 link bracket mounting bolt and both sides came out exactly the same. So my question is could it be possible that the mount on the block could be off? One mount always lines up about 1" forward of the other with the block centered in the frame and same for the transmission. I've been scratching my head of this for over two weeks and resisted posting until I felt like I had no other ideas to try because I can't believe the block mounts could be off but I've got nothing else and searching the net comes up with no one else with the same problem. I may have to fab my own mounts so that I can compensate for the uneven mount locations.

Has anyone ever heard of such a problem?

The actual engine block casting mounting points are offset from the other side and the factory motor mounts compensate for that. If you are using the stock mounts try switching sides.

Thanks for that info. Mery49 you were spot on. I just wish I would have saved myself the agravation and posted this question earlier but I really though I had something off somewhere...whew, I'm glad that wasn't the case. Nice to know I'm not losing it

I was using aftermarket weld in mounts and I guess they don't compensate for that offset. To me it looks weird having them mounted and not the same on the MII crossmember. One is on the forward edge and the other is on the back edge of the CM. I also have the original style mounts that I got with the engine (with the big rubber pads) and I lined those up and yep they are offset.

Anyone have pics of there motor mounts installed? I would love to see what you guys and gals did to compensate for this either making your own or using aftermarket mounts.

Good to hear it wasn't a problem with your cross-member.

Ya I was sweating bulltets when I first figured out there was a problem bc originally I had crossmember problems (warped CM) which thanks to the FTE members I got that figured out and got a replacement from TCI. I had spent a lot of time measuring and re-measuring and it had been a while since the CM was installed so I started wondering again. Thank GOD it was not the problem because I don't even want to think about removing the CM now.

Now I just need to fab some mounts and hopefully get this faze behind me and on to the next.

I happy to hear that solved your delemma, back years ago when I built my Cobra that had me scratching my head for a while too.
