But it goes great behind any engine, & is the strongest of the 4-speeds; you just need to choose between having a granny, or close-ratio version.
For diesels, the close ratio T19A was used due to the narrower rev range of the diesel engine. But these go well with a gas engine too, if a granny low isn't needed.

My 4.02 trans came out of a friends 86 6.9 ex cab f250 4x4, but my 86 6.9 reg cab 4x4 came out of the factory with a 5.11 unit, my 460 truck came with a 5.11 unit as well(chassis was an 86 extended cab when new) while my spare 6.32 unit came out of an identical 460 truck, also an 86, all the trucks in question had 3.55 gears. I'm not sure if there was really any rhyme or reason as to which trans really went where.
