The engine revs like it's in neutral when it's messing up. It acts like it's low on fluid. If I rev it real hard (I know that isn't good) it'll move just a little bit. But it goes right into reverse, just not forward.
Hey guys, sorry I'm just now getting back on here. The OD button don't help. My OBD-II scanner still shows no codes, is there another place to pull the codes? I've since changed the fluid and filter with no improvement. The truck runs flawlessly after it's been sitting for a while and the motor and trans is cool. Could it be the solenoid pack that's gone bad? The truck pulls like a train when it's in gear, with no slipping at all. It's only after it's taken out of gear, that it won't go back in gear, after it's been ran a while. I visually inspected the wiring to the trans and all seems to be ok. Is there a way to check the solenoids? Could the TPS cause this?
If your scanner can read Ford-specific data points then one of the parameters you should be able to read is transmission oil temp. My ScanGauge II does but I had to tell it where to look for the data first. That's what I use for my trans temp gauge.
Try unplugging the harness from the transmission and driving it. The trans should default to 2nd gear (?) and if it moves without slipping then you know it's an electrical issue.
the 97 and older power strokes are not true obdII they have to have a scanner designed to read them. Most generic obdII scanners wont read them which is probally why your not getting any codes
