i have not pulled the pinion out ran out of time. hope to get it in the morning
i have seen no metal nor do i fill any drag on the pinion, all i have found is a small amount of play and the marks on the carrier.
I found all my shim material waded up and in the passage that goes forward to lube the front pinion bearings. Mine had never been touched after leaving the factory either. I wondered if it may have been over torqued and crushed the crush washer too much then backed off and re tightened leaving the crush washer crushed too much.
the bearings look good the shaft it in good shape less then .001 out.
the crush sleeve is very loss on the shaft and it has worn the ID on 1 end to where it will float. the races look like the wear has just started as they have no show of loading and uneven wear.
the pinion has 3 teeth that have a mark on them where they scrubbed the housing and 1 that has a small chip on the very end where the gear dose not run so dont see there being any problem to use the gears. ii going to clean them up and set it back and see what happens.
all i can say is change you rear oil and check the diff as mine has never made a sounds or leaked, but was not far from a big failure .
get it her running Saturday and drive it 50 miles this weekend, so far there is not noise no leaks and there is only normal temps on the diff. only time will tell but it looks like it is good to go. thanks for the help.
