I am thinking of doing a 6in lift this year and want to know what I all think of what brand to go with and any problem I will run into. And also what's the biggest tire I can run that's practical as in has suspension travel still.
To give you an idea, I'm running a 7" Donahoe Racing/Icon Suspension lift. This would be a 6" lift on a 250/350. I have 375/65R16 (36"x15.50"x16")Dick Cepeks on 10" wide wheels with 4.5" backspacing. I only had to trim the valance on the bottom of the front bumper. Lock to lock, rubs slightly on the leaf springs. I hope this helps.
I had a 6" fabtech with 37x13.5x20. At full lock they would rub on the spring. I am unsure of what the backspacing is. I think if the backspacing was different it wouldn't have rubbed.

That's is kinda like the set up I want. U have a pic and also how do u like that icon suspension. And do u still have suspension travel for off reading
I don't have any close up pics, just what's in my profile. I don't do much wheeling, but only problem I could see would be rubbing on back of front fender if twisted and turning sharp. It's an all spring lift with no blocks and rides better than when was stock.
These X's you guys are building are off the chain. I love them. I have a 2003 X XLT with a V10, 53k original miles on her and I am going to need tires soon. So since I have to spend money on tires, I of course dont want to buy just regular sizes. I also would love to lift my X but I cant spend a ton of money at this point. Is there any chance that I could just stick 3" blocks front and rear to get her up there in the short term? Then I could run 31's maybe or 33's. I like the stock 16" plosihed wheels, so I want to keep them as is. I also plan to put an intake, flowmaster, and a super chip on it. What do you think? Thanks guys, for all the help.

DO NOT...repeat DO NOT use blocks to lift the front end, can lead to very dangerous situation if one should slip out Would probably just handle terribly anyway with that leverage on the springs. As for upgrading tire size, my EX had Firestone Destination A/T under it 305/70/16 E on stock wheels and no lift when I bought it, only occasionally rubbed edge of leaf spring. Something to consider if you're on a budget.
Is it even street legal to have blocks in the front? Seems un safe. Wouldn't be just as easy to put longer shackels and about same price. Or wouldn't stock leaf springs from f250 out of a junk yard give it about 1 1/2 - 2" lift.
. Finally had a dry weekend and she's done. 6" BDS 37x12.50 Cooper STT MT'S on Moto Metal 17x10's. Couldn't do in garage would not have gotten it back out. LOL

Sad but true story, after going on 15 years of working on vehicles I did that exact thing... Wasn't even my first lift either lol. Ended up dropping the tire pressures down to next to nothing and rolling it out, lol.
