Here's a illustration of the adjuster. And so I'm not called a ****, welcome.
actually, I just went to a parts yard in Winston Salem yesterday, and the first truck I looked under had the complete assembly! my mind was blown, I was at a yard a few weeks ago and not one of their fords had one. so I've now got all the pieces, but the cable on the back right wheel is shorter than it should be for some reason. I'm hoping it got bound up in there somewhere or isn't connected right to the drum, I'm gonna jack the thing up and look at it today probably.
If you have this thing down and want trouble free operation, you might want to get new rear cables. I have not had one of these year trucks that the rear cables didn't freeze up and get the rear brakes hot. Very common problem. And they are not very expensive. But they are a little bit of a pain to replace, you have to pretty much take the rear brakes all apart to get them in.

yeah, the cables go into the drums. not a fan of messing with drum brakes. but probably a good call, il have to figure out what sizes I need.
Look over on the driver's side frame for a plug or some cut-off wires. One should be purple with a orange dotted line, and the other should be a black with a pink stripe. Check the purple/orange wire with a testlight or meter, it should have 12v on it with the key in run, engine off. If it does, jump this wire over to the black/pink wire, and with the key on your back-up lamps should be on. If all that works, then find the two wires coming from the switch on the tranny, hook one to the purple/orange and hook the other to the black/pink. That should be it if the switch is good.
well, I looked around there today and couldn't find any semblance of wiring for it. I'm not totally surprised, it isn't the first wiring I've had to put right in this truck. I'm going to have a friend look for it too, he knows a lot more about these old trucks than I do and might find something I missed. doesn't help that every wire under the cab is one color-red clay brown. apparently the PO went off the road frequently.
