If you use a. Battry kill switch you can use a
Fuse across the lugs. This will allow voltage to continue to essential stuff.... radio memory computers etc. In the event someone tries to start it when on the off position the fuse will blow rendering it completely dead. Cheap simple effective
Problem is battery switches are very large and very easy to find and turn.

I have thought doing this, but where in the "system" would you put it? Between the battery and the starter? Wouldn't you effectively be resetting the computer each time you shut the power? If this is the case, then Im not sure I would want to do it... Just asking if anyone has any knowledge regarding this relatively simple method of theft prevention.

It is simple but simple also means simple for thieves to fix. If you disconnect between the starter then it won't affect the computer or anything.
If you were to use any kind of disconnect you would be much better off putting a latching or normal relay to interrupt the starter activation circuit ( no need for a huge relay that's easy to find), or some other essential circuit, and have either a hidden switch or if latching relay have it triggered by something like door lock signals. A lot easier to hide and harder to figure out.
One vice I have with security systems is mounting location, most install companies won't install them in hard to find spots and many systems become useless once a fuse is pulled. That makes them easy to disable.
The link Stewart posted is a very good setup and can be made in many different set ups and very user specific. The biggest thing is making is hard to figure out
Lol I like that. That reminds me of a pic i saw a year or so ago that the guy had a shotgun mounted under the dash that pointed at the driver. Not sure how it was rigged up but I would hate to steal that car. And not to sure what the cops would say if some one did tried
You would get charged for that. I read where a shop owner was tired of getting his tools stolen so he booby trapped his toolbox. Ended up killing a thief but also went to jail. Just make sure they don't find the body

Lol maybe rig the airbag to go off would also be a good one
Excursions are not targets for the truck thieves and will never be unless you disable your PATS system. 16 years on the streets, and never heard of an Excursion getting stolen that didn't have the keys in it. And, yes, I work in South Texas.
Many years ago I had a Toyota 4x4, I worked in a high crime area. Locking the car just encourage them to break a window, jimmy a door.
My answer, I took a lead off the interior light, and ran it under the truck. I brought it down to a single strand of a copper wire, that was wrapped around the fuse of a M80 firecracker. I wrapped the whole thing in a plastic bag full of flower and duct taped it to the frame. If the door was opened without first turning off the hidden switch in the bed. KaBOOM!!!!
Simple but very effective. It went off twice in two years. I can imagine that the typical thief is not even bothered by a car alarm. But this would confuse and render your ears useless hearing only ringing for several minutes. Not to mention a car alarm going off would not get any attention from residents. But this would have every porch light on for a block and a half.

That is AWESOME! You should have videotaped a demo of it going off
