I don't understand what you mean by up date . it seems to pick up right where it left off. for example 66872.3 then when I turn it back on it starts there
When you start the truck the PSOM reads the mileage from the EEPROM and then it keeps track of the mileage as you drive and sends this to the odometer. When you turn off the key the hot in start power wire to the PSOM drops out and when this happens the PSOM then updates the EEPROM (stores the mileage).
If you lose power to both wires at the same time (hot in start #18 and hot at all times #8) the PSOM will not up date the mileage in the EEPROM and when you start it back up you will have the same mileage that you started with before because the EEPROM was never updated.
Now that you do not have a #8 fuse you no have power for the PSOM to write the mileage back to the EEPROM.
And that IS a good way to kill the PSOM too! If the EEPROM gets corrupted its game over for mileage readings. The "Error " or "---------" will show in the ODO window, the worst, you loose your ratio settings and have no speedometer and odometer!
the mechanic had the wire diagrame for the truck, it showed the ONLY thing on the #8 fuse is the air bag module
if it is bad for the other computer why would he say its not?
I even ask him about putting a sports wheel on to do away with the air bag all together , he said this way is the same thing the air bag is disabled but the wires are still in the system
Your mechanics wiring diagrams are wrong and he does not know what he is talking about.
Fuse #8 powers a lot of things beside the air bag module and the PSOM.
The below is from the 1995 F-series Ford Shop Manual.
Look at all the things fuse #8 powers.
You most likely you have a short in the dome light as that is what blows fuse #8 most of the time.

ok, so i looked at the papers the mechanic gave me,in fact he did remove #5 not #8
it is the airbag moniter.he pulled the whole cluster out and put an amp gauge on it and took it on a road test , amp never went above .05 amps
he also checkedsplice 242 and said it also was good
I don't know , but when the #8 fuse blows the speedo/odometer goes out it also has the electric shift control thats probably why the trans goes into limp mode.
if the speedo don't work the main computer don't know how fast its going so that limps the trany?
he put a new fuse in #18 and took out #5 and the speedo/odometer works and the trans shifts as normal my truck is just the lx it don't have all the other fancy lites or cruise control through all this the dome lite has worked.
one other thing about a couple months ago the lite in the dash for air bag would blink when driving but then it stoped this was long before the fuse blew
Ijust thought because Idon't drive the truck much it had some thing to do with it
