Whole thing started while back with code 628 tcc slippage. Drove on highway from work snd almost home and was fluid comin out. Mechanic said clutch was locking up which caused fluid to boil. Swapped fluid and can drive in town still. Do I really need new tranny or can it be something simple like solenoid pack?
if it's shifting into all the gears good then the clutch packs are not worn out yet.how many miles are on it?
often whenever you get the slip code,it's commonly caused by a bad solenoid pack plug or corroded connectors.when the converter doesn't lock, the fluid will run way warmer than normal so if you don't have a large aux cooler, there's no wonder she warmed up on ya.
id guess your trans is fine.id stay away from the shop who claimed failed trans without diagnosing it.
start by inspecting this connection.remove the metal heat shield (put it back on after) then press inward on the clip while pulling up.
insure both sides are spotless.the connector, and use a small mirror to look down in the s-pack side of the plug.
if they look good, you can call a local trans shop to see if they will test your converter clutch solenoid in your pack for you.
