tow/haul switch replacement
I have a 2004 F350 dually 4x4 5spd/wod tranny. The day after I bought the truck (Nov 2013) the tow/haul switch quit working (light in instrument panel/not on end of shift lever). I need info/direction/instruction on replacing the lever switch from anyone who has accomplished this task.
I have not actually utilized the tow/haul function but will do so 80% of the time starting in the spring. I bought the truck exclusively to haul a 4 horse/living quarters gooseneck trailer (10,500 lb empty; 16,500 lb loaded).
I have no reason to believe the light is burnt out, so I will replace the shift lever switch (with someone's experienced direction) and see if the light will operate again.
Thanks for any help and direction!
The problem is in the wiring to the switch. Where the wires enters the end of the shift handle in the steering column is where the problem is located. The wires rub and either wear through or the wire breaks inside the insulation.
Take the covers off of the steering column. Carefully inspect the wires and either repair the break or replace the entire shift handle. A new handle is about $65 at a Ford dealer.
This ^^ same info is probably available here on FTE too however I've not yet seen it.
