'99 Overdriveoff Switch Failure

When pulling my travel trailer I usually switch off the overdrive when I find the transmission shifting up and down often. My truck is a '99 with the V10. On my last trip in Idaho and Montana, the switch sometimes didn't light up (or switch to OD off) when the switch is depressed. Being a guy, smacking the shift handle sometimes activates the OD off switch so obviously the switch is going bad. My questions are: how is the switch replaced, does the whole handle need to be replaced? Is there some contact made where the shift handle attaches to the column as moving the handle seems to make it work better? This is my first post here. My truck only has 70,0000 miles. Any help would be appreciated.

Ihave the same problem too. I was going to pull off the plastic covering the steering column to see if the wires for the switch are broken. You shouldnt have to replace the whole arm, but I would let someone else give you that answer.

In most cases the problem is the wire where it passes out of the shift handle. They usually break and the shaft has to be replaced. I have not seen many on-off buttons go bad but it is sometimes the case. You can get just the button.
