Glenn, there are three paths for the brake warning light to come ON.
1. The emergency brake switch ... duh, but that doesn't work.
2. Turning the key to "Start", not run.
3. If you have a DRL module then it goes through it before the E-Brake switch.
Thanks Jim, Tried the first two and don't have the 3rd. Wait, I reread #2, I'll have to check that!

Both have switches that could be jumpered to test.
Where are these switches to test? The switch on the brake pedal is OK, the lock to get it out of park and knocks the cruise off work.
The switch on the brake pedal turns on the brake lights in the bed / cab roof, and kicks off the cruise and unlocks the shifter as you say. Nothing to do with any failure warning. That switch is on the master cylinder.
The switch for the vacuum is on the vacuum distribution box (aka "manifold"). Well, actually, it's NEAR the box, on the end of a short vacuum like connected to the box. D@mn, sorry, LATE night at work and my eyes are droopin'; tomorrow night if I remember, I'll scan and post the relevant EVTM pages.

I don't like messing with that switch because of the cruise, it works but maybe I could just replace it? I'll see if I can find the vacuum switch, thanks for your help! No problem about the other.
The vacuum manifold one is plugged in, I don't know what to test? The 'other' switch on the MC is for the level of fluid in the reservoir alert. I unplugged it and it lite the ABS light.
