Check all the connections, both at the battery, the starter, and the grounds down to the block. If the cables are in good shape, and the connections clean and tight, then the starter is shot. But check the connections and battery cables first.
Connections are good above and on starter so starter it is . Next question j have a starter with no cone over gear that came off of another 7.3 that was a standard will it work it was a month old

all 7.3 starters should be the same, though apparently they come in straight and gear-reduction models.
Gear-reduction models are much better, BTW.
There are several different style starters for these trucks. I want to say the one with no nose cone is from a powerstroke, but it might work, I am not 100% on that though.
