Last night my truck wouldnt start. Drove fine all day, started up bunch of different times. Went to go home at night. No crank, everything else works, hear the fuel pump prime windows radio everything. smacked the starter a few times but no change. Checked the fuses and relays, all appear good. So im guessing the starter or the starter solenoid, but I cant find one on the truck just something that looks like it could be it attached to the starter.
I don't. But I don't think a battery would run every aspect of the truck without problem and not have enough juice to even move the starter. If it was cranking I would suspect a possible battery. But my specific situation I don't think it's likely.
Actually it's common. There can be enough current to light accessories and such, but it chokes when called upon to actually deliver serious current demands of a starter. Part of the problem is bad or loose connections will mimic a bad battery too, and a bad starter (dragging) is also similar.
One trick I use as a quick test is turn the headlights on and then crank. With a good battery, cables, starter, etc. they won't dim hardly at all, a bad starter for example will draw a lot more current than normal and they may go out completely. Without being there, and with a forum type format it is best to be thorough as possible and eliminate the obvious, etc.

I have an HID kit, so I don't know if that would change things, but there was no dimming at all when I tried starting last night. Like I said everything worked as it was supposed to with the exception of the truck actually cranking or starting.
Well I believe I found the culprit. Removed the old starter installed a remaned motorcraft. Now it works as it should. Sounds a little different though.
Old next to new
Tab coming off the ground terminal is rusted through
Same area on the new one
Thank you everyone for your input. On your suggestion, tedster, I had the battery tested. Passed with flying colors. :-) so one less thing to worry about.
One more suggestion though. See how bright and purty them electrical connectors are compared to the old? It's important to keep them that way. Vaseline works better than nothing, to keep corrosion away. Coat threads hardware first and tighten securely. There is special purpose electrical grease called NO-OX that is conductive that works excellent too. Good deal!

Would fluid film work at least for the current time?
