Starter dragging "BAD" ???

Fellow PowerStrokers, Yesterday morning my starter started dragging bad and it's taking about twice as many revo's to fire up the 7.3 ?? Checked the batteries and alt- charging is good- has anyone seen this before. Is is likely the starter is just close to being done ?? Some person @ O'Reilly has a 7.3 said sum'n about the solenoid on the starter - anyone know about this ?? thx

Nick - Did you check the wiring connections to the starter and also the starter bolts. They are known to come loose after awhile.

Check the bolts. If they are backing out a little the gearing could be binding up. Trust me on this.

Also check your battery connections and clamps if they are corroded or even dull gray it will drag the starter down as well.

hey fellas - thanks for the guidance. I found the problem. I had a broken starter housing bolt. (The long bolts that actually hold the starter assembly together). One was broke- causing the rotating unit to ****- thus - not gettng the proper gear mesh or torque load. Anyways- had a padnuh w/ an old starter- scavanged it- now we all good- thx again
