Oil cooler probems maybe?

Good morning men,
I just recently traded for a 92 f350 with the 7.3 engine. We've changed the oil cooler gaskets and O-rings and my anti-freeze is still mixing with oil. We've looked over the filter housing and pressured up the cooler tube itself it looks good. My question is where else can it be mixing? Does it have a egr cooler or anything? please help any comments greatly appreciated.

Cracked head, or maybe you nicked one of the o-rings when you installed them. There is no EGR system on the IDI.

Ok thank you I was kind of afraid of that. I'm kinda new to the 7.3 not really sure if I could get better heads for a little more power. Idk what to do really, but I definatly know I want to fix it. This poor truck sat in storage for 8+ years so who knows what all will be wrong , but it does start and drive.

Could be head gasket or cracked head

Yea I hope not but more than likely that's my problem. I'm hoping not I mean it only has 141k miles on it.

How clean did you get the system when you re-sealed the oil cooler? Are you positive it's not residual from before?

Well I've been letting it drain for the last couple days. I'm not sure but it might be residual. Tomorrow I'm going replace the oil cooler o-rings again only because its been on and off a lot. When I get that done I'm going to fill the radiator with water and pressure up the system and leave my oil drain plug out to see if I have water draining through the oil pan. Then I'll have a little better idea of what is going on.

Well A quick update..... It doesn't look good for my ol'truck pulled the oil pan off and filled the radiator with water and it just pours down through the engine. My mechanic seems to think its due to Electralysis (I killed that word sorry) Being that it sit for so long he believes the antifreeze ate a hole in the cylinder.. So a new question should I go back 7.3 or should I go with a 6.9? Someone give me some ideas please...

Electrolysis should be referring to cavitation... wouldn't really an issue with a truck that wasn't running. Have you checked the head gaskets? Can you see exactly where the water comes from with the oil pan off?

If you do replace the engine, I trust the 6.9 a little more than the 7.3, myself. But that's just a personal opinion.

Yes its coming from the #6 cylinder. we can roll the piston up or down and it speeds up or slows down depending on the direction of travel. Everything should bolt up right? the trans is a 3 speed manual with overdrive. Ive heard a lot of good on the 6.9 but I like the bigger engine but I know bigger aint always better

7.3 is just a 6.9 bored out, with slight modifications and improvements. 6.9 has much thicker cyl walls.

Honestly the 7.3 only has about 10 more horsepower and 20 more ft lbs of torque. Main weakness of the 6.9 is head gaskets, so a new set and some head studs if you really feel like doing them would give you a nice, trouble free engine.

I would take the head off your engine to see if your gasket is bad, or maybe the head. Don't condemn it just yet...

X2 on pulling the heads first. These heads are notorious for cracking. When I did the top end on my 94, both heads were cracked and I went through 3 more JY sets before I found two that weren't. Take them off and have them magnafluxed before scrapping the motor. 140k is usually about where an untreated 7.3 will start to see cavitation, but sitting has nothing to do with it.

Yes thank you I didn't want to condemn it but there is a nice hole about the size of a pencil eraser. So she is toast
