I just bought a 94 F250 with a few issues that I'm trying to resolve.
The shift lever is stuck in park.... I have to put the truck into N, start it and then it will shift freely. The brake lights DO work, and the fuses all check out good. Can the brake switch be faulty?
Generally that would be caused by the brake circuit in my experience. I changed the tube in the column of a Ford once, only to find the issue was a broken wire. Switch could be a possibility, but a broken or corroded air somewhere in the circuit sounds more logical from the symptoms described. Once started , can you engage the shifter to park then freely throughout or does it get stuck?
I can only engage the shifter when in the N position. Once it's in the N position, I can freely move it to D, R, etc... Once it goes back to the P position it locks up again.
In order for me to move it to the N position, I have to turn the key as if I was starting the truck.
Thanks for that info. It looks like it may be the shift lock actuator.
How difficult is it to take apart the steering column? It looks like that is where it is located.
