4.9L L6 Manual Trans
Repowering 73 F250 with stock 390 cid with a 1989 4.9L (300) , L6.
What manual stock transmission for 2WD will directly bolt to the 300 without an adapter.
Any help would be appreciated.

A Mazda M5OD-R2 is the one that came on most F150s with the 4.9l. I think some F250s came with a ZF5. Is that correct everyone?

Noticed/Toyo Koyo 5 speed is listed as options for 4.9L
in addition to Borg-Warner T-18 4 speed & ZF 5 speed.
Where all these manual transmissions actually offered for 1989?

The NP 435 was also used for many years. Not quite sure as to what the last year was though.

IIRC Chilton and Haynes cite 1992 as the last year for a four-speed tranny in Ford trucks. I have tripped over numerous errors in both manuals, though, so the truth may be something else.

NP435, T18, M5OD, ZF6, and hell if you were stupid enough, you could even bolt up a Mustang T5 behind it. The straight 6 has an SBF pattern, so anything that went behind a 302 or 351 can bolt up to it.
EDIT: I meant ZF5, not 6.

Thank you for your response.
Will a C6 from a say 85 to 96 bolt directly to the 89 4.9L (300) engine?
Also, the stock 73 F250 trans is a C6 , bolted to an FE 390
Will this trans bolt directly to the 89 ,4.9L?

No the FE bolt pattern is not the same as the SBF pattern. But the 85-96(as long as it came behind an SBF) will bolt up. Just have to get the appropriate flex plate

I would be looking for a ZF5 from a 87-97 F250/F350 that had a 300, 302, or 351.
You get the OD and a pretty stout transmission.
The Mazda M5OD from the 87-96 F150/bronco will also work, but not nearly as strong

If your block is an 89 it may not have the threaded boss on the bell housing for the mechanical z-bar linkage that the earlier 4spds used.
