Water Pumps

I'm looking at replacing my water pump. Just wondering what aftermarket brands that you guys are running with metal impellers and how many miles on them.

Thanks,

Sweet, and you save $35! Are you running one of those pumps Benny? I wish someone made a thermostat to specs like that, I'd buy one.

How about a water pump flow test?
What would be an expected amount of coolant flow for length of time in gallons?

I think he would be OK with one from NAPA or AZ or Oreilys with a Lifetime warrentty if you don't want to spend that much coin on a Water Pump

O'Reillys has a pump with a metal impeller. No personal experience, but throwing it out there.

My only symptoms are "high" EOT at delta test, no puking or high ECT.
When I say high, I mean higher then I want to see
My delta test results are ECT-188* EOT-200*.
My oil cooler I would assume to be healthy since EOT comes down when exiting the highway to a stop. It lowers 1 degree every 8 seconds until it reaches 192* then holds steady.

I know that the 15 degree delta doesn't matter too much with a deleted egr system.
The oil cooler is also brand new about 10 months ago.

I don't run the truck too much without a trailer but my 12k toyhauler causes about a 17* delta. Pulling some 4% grades for two miles I will see a 25* delta.

I have read others reporting that their deltas never go over 15* pulling over mountains.
My cooling fan works perfect and coolant never gets over 220* but my oil temp can get to 245*. Of course, dropping down the back side my temps recover as expected.

I'm just wondering if a lack of coolant flow can cause these temps. I have the factory water pump and am thinking the impeller could be spinning on the shaft causing this

Some members like to puff out their chests and state they never have problems and only see a 2 degree difference in temps, rock solid 49 volt FICM's with never any smoke etc etc etc.

The harder the engine works the more heat it will produce.

I would say your oil cooler is ok if the temps drop after being worked. Just keep an eye on unloaded @ 65 temps and towing EOT temps well under the 253 cut-off.

I was pretty sure the oil cooler was fine, just bummed that the delta runs up to 12*. Also a little concerned that I'm getting close to that 253* EOT.

I checked out the O'Reilly water pump, not a bad price of $120 with a lifetime warranty on a brand new pump. Their other option was a reman that they are charging $80 for. Of course Id buy the New pump.

The BPD water pump looks nice, but like all of their things, it looks overpriced to me. Especially if it had problems I would have to sent it off for replacement vs driving down to O'Reilly for the swap

Ironically the reman has the metal impeller and the new unit has a plastic impeller.

Figures. I didn't see anything about metal impellers on either one, just assumed they both had them.

What I would like to know is can the BPD pump be rebuilt at home.
If that is the case then I would think more about it and a repair kit.

I think I have only seen one post on determining the health of the water pump from a flow perspective. In that post, it was discussed to watch the flow through the hose that returns coolant to the degas bottle. It was stated that the flow should be a steady and fairly strong stream. Fairly subjective at best!

I have considered rigging up a tee for the water pump discharge so that I could watch the pressure immediately (as possible anyway) off of the pump discharge, but I have not ever done it. I can't get motivated. Main reason is that I wouldn't know what to do with just one data point .................. If I ever get a RadKitPlus, then maybe I will try it, but I do not think that the coolant system is designed for much back pressure (ie not much pressure loss from pump discharge to the pump suction).

Are you sure that your ECT and EOT sensors are both accurate?

It will certainly be interesting to see if a new water pump would change your readings!
