Where do I start??

I finally went home and picked up my 96 PSD, and I'm back in south TX with the truck. It was about 575 mile trip, the truck runs like a top. The main issue is the truck accelerates like a slug, I knew it had acceleration issues before the purchase.

It's got 194K miles a 5 speed 4x4. At this point I guess I need to do some basic diagnostics. I'm thinking I need to order a scanning tool to get some basic readings, so what are some recommendations?

Any suggestions on things I can look at without the scan tools to check just for regular maintenance. There are no leaks in the Vally around the HPOP or fuel pump, or leaks anywhere that are noticeable.

Clean air filter?
Boost leaks, check from underneath side with flashlight and look for soot between exhaust manifold and block especially at the rear of the block driver's side.
Plugged Catalytic converter.
Do a search on power peddle mod
Check fuel pressure at idle via schrader valve should be 50 psi min, clean fuel filter.

Your sig says F250 but fender passenger side says F350?

There is a start anyways

New air filter, I have been underneath and did not see any signs of leaks around the turbo, cat is gone so is muff, new exhaust. The fuel filter and pressure I'm not sure about. I need to make a run for groceries tomorrow so I can pick up a gauge to check fp.

New air filter, fuel filter, and general fluids. Maybe run some diesel kleen through the next few tanks(many run it every tank). Check the fuel pressure and clean the FPR. Like already said, look for exhaust leaks. Check the HPOP pressure. You need oil pressure to build pretty high and pretty quick to do anything fast or powerful. And 200k injectors may be about ready for a refreshing. Scan tools that do what you need would be an Aeroforce Scangauge, Auto Enginuity w/ Ford enhanced bundle, and there is a Snap On tool but I can't recall the model.

OK, I have looked at the scangauge and the AE with the Ford bundle. I like the idea of the overall ability of the AE but is it worth it?

This is a truck I plan on keeping for my dedicated tow rig so I will be adding lots of upgrades. I already have the ts 6 position chip and 6637 filter ready to install but would like to have it running right before I put them in.

I'm going to give you a +1 vote for AE. I like mine. And to answer a question from earlier, the Snap-on reader is a MT2500.
