High fuel pressure all of a sudden

Thankfully I have an Isspro fuel pressure gauge and HPOP guage, and today I noticed my fuel pressure was running around 75psi. it is usually around 45 or so. also, hpop looked lower than normal. I just went a short distance, just wanted to get it home before something happened. All I can think is maybe a dirty fuel filter? I fueled up yesterday. I am due for a filter change... I also have an Auto Enginuity scan tool that I have never used, might be time to learn how to use it. The truck started and ran ok. Could it be bad (dirty) fuel? Or water in fuel? By the way, the gauge is hooked up to the fuel bowl, before the filter. Also running 2-stroke oil in fuel about 1 oz per gallon.

I would check your return line and possibly your FPR. 45 is a little low and 75 is a little high, 60-65 would be a little better.

Ok, thanks for the suggestion. By the way, that F650 dash is nice! Thanks again Clay

AE won't help you with any fuel pressure issues. Are your readings at idle or under load? For it to be a bad filter causing that large a spike in pressure (pre-filter) it would have to be clogged up enough I would think you'd notice performance issues under load.

Clay's suggestion about the return line or FPR make the most sense. Let us know what the pressure does after the filter change.

mine usually sits right around 70-72. maybe the 2-stroke knocked something loose in the tank.

Hmm, ok, so maybe my fuel pressure was too low to begin with. I did swap the bed last week, maybe we knocked something around the tank. I will check it out today and see how it drives.

I have had problems with IssPro fuel pressure gauges in the past. It may be the gauge. If you can check the fuel pressure it with a good mechanic's oil pressure gauge, you can verify if your gauge is malfunctioning.

Check the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR). It has a spring in it that gets "gummed" up. I "shaved" out the crud with a swiss army knife.

check your lines if you took the bed off you could have a kink someplace..that will give you high ICP and higher fuel psi

This is also where I would begin to look for unusually high fuel pressure.

This would be the second place.

I have been driving the truck around today, and the fuel pressure is staying around 65 to 70. It seems to run perfect. I have not changed the fuel filter (it has maybe 15,000 miles on it). HPOP pressure looks good too...
