I was driving home today coming up a hill all was normal, as I crested the hill overdrive light started flashing, no limp mode or seemly unusual operation of trans, temp didn't get over 140 tops. I went ahead and drove it home and didn't have any issues really, shifts seem a little more firm from 1 to 2 but that may be in my head, are there any common issues with these that cause the light to come on but no limp mode?
Mine did that a few weeks ago then the light stopped flashing eveything seemed fine. About a week later it started doing it again, went away and has yet to come back and I have still yet to pull codes. DONT DO WHAT I DID AND WAIT FOR CODES
Scan it. If you get a P1725 it means the converter clutch is slipping. It may be time for a converter before it shreds. I had replaced mine this summer with a high capacity one and the new one cracked the lock apply piston, so now I get to change it again.
Well I was looking at suncoast rebuild kits for the Trans as well, I figured since that kit is 500 and I'll have to pull the Trans for the converter I might go ahead and do it while it's out.... Have you guys used the suncoast extreme kit? I'm looking for one that will hold up to 4-500 HP for a reasonable price. I'm a mechanic (engines) and my school has a transmission shop that I can use and my program director has done his own 4r100 before. I'm just looking to get parts that will last when I build my engine
In order to be SURE the trans will hold 4-500 hp, you need to spend closer to 5k and buy one from one of the main builders, racer x, bts, john woods, etc. Racer x sells a real good converter for 900ish. I've got that converter and a fairly heavy duty rebuild. However, my trans isn't as good as any one listed above for sure.
