Just bought 03 EB Excursion and 4wd isn't working. I have searched forums and tested many of the parts. I was only getting 2.5 volts to the 4wd switch on the dash but the switch has proper ohms when switched. I was getting 2.5 volts at the GEM also. Replaced GEM. I now have 5 volts to the switch and drops to around 2+ in 4h and 1+ in 4l. Another thread said check fuse 31 transmission range sensor. I have no power to either side of the fuse panel in that location (fuse out obviously). I have been looking for a schematic on that circuit but have been unsuccessful. Is that fuse supposed to be hot all the the time with KOER? Where does it get its power from? Thanks in advance. By the way, this site helped me repair the compass/mileage display, an inoperative speedometer and a few other issues. (still working on dvd sound but that will be another post). I know you guys have the knowledge to set me on the right path!
There are two relays next to the drivers side battery. I had one go out on my ex. First test before buying new relays is to switch them and see if the 4wd engages. If it does, you'll have to switch them to disengage and then you'll know which part to order.
I installed known good relays from another truck and still no go. I have not tried manually locking the hubs but I will today. Wouldn't I still get a 4x4 light on the dash even if the hubs were not engaged? Is there a sensor that tells the module that the hubs are engaged? Thanks for the feedback.

No, you control the light and there is no hub locked sensor. Lock them for giggles.
Locked the hubs (for giggles) no go. I did get flashes on my test light on the orange wire at the transfer case motor connector when switching to 4 hi. No motor sound or vibration on the motor case felt. Bad motor maybe? Can I bench test the motor by applying power and ground to it or would I fry it if it is still good?

Of course you can use this thread but there is tons of reading on this if you search the Ex and Superduty forums.
WOW! Thanks for the help! So, 4wd switch was only getting 2.5v. Traced back to GEM module-replaced. No power to transfer case motor-relpaced both relays with known good-have power now to motor (and bought 2 new relays). Removed motor-ohm tested- dead short to case (the motor itself inside the plastic cover). Put 12v to it-nothing. Replaced motor. 2H, 4H and 4Low now operational. Total cost-$300.00. On to the next repair!

What and Where is the GEM module? I don't get any dash lights when trying to engage my 4wd. I've locked the hubs manually. I've never heard the TC motor kick on. I have not checked for voltage at the TC motor yet. I found the relays, I've switched them and nothing happened.

Check for voltage. I think it is on the pass side under the dash.
