Vaccum Problems?

I just bought my first Big Bronco, a 1991 Eddie Bauer. I think this is my favorite truck ever. It's got space and power. Problems have started to develop though and I want to get some advice.

First the Cruise control was working when I picked up the vehicle but has since stopped. Also the 4X4 indicator light would come on when I pushed the dash switch, and I could here the action from this. Now however, the light does not activate and the 4X4 doesn't engage. This is obvious as I took it out in 6 inches of snow tonight!

I checked the vaccum at the manifold and it was good there. Is it the can that has the cable running to the throttle? I noticed that another vaccum hose runs from the back of that can to the firewall. Is this for the 4WD? While I'm at it, why does the truck have locking hubs? In the manual for operation it says nothing of locking the hubs for operation. Unless I'm reading ir wrong...(probable). Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like you’ve blown a fuse. Check all the fuses especially fuse #6. If your truck has manual locking hubs then it’s because someone has replaced the factory automatic locking hubs with manual hubs. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks Errgo,

Yeah, first thing I checked was the fuses. They were all good. I'll check again just to be sure anyway.

Thanks

Do you hear a bunch of clicks when you press the button but it doesn't go into 4WD? If that's the case, then you probably just need to take the motor off and clean it out. Check out this link:

I took my motor apart last week and fixed it. It took all of about 20-30 minutes. I did not cut the wires as suggested; I just hung the motor down while I worked on it.

Bigric,

Thanks for the advice. The first time I pushed the switch, I did here clicks and such, and the dash light went on. I assumed iy had engaged. Then I took it out by pressing the button again and the light went out. Later that night though, I noticed that the light was dimmly glowing on it's own . I looked at the manual and it said to push 4X4 and Low Range at the same time then back up 10 feet. I did this, but the light still glowed slightly.

Sometime after that I now have nothing. No 4X4, light or clicking noise. No Cruise Control, which did work when I bought it, and a gas guage that works when it feels like it.

Thanks again
