I have really mixed emotions about ads like this............on one hand, I love that our trucks are going up in value in the general market, but I also know that they're not going up THAT fast. Granted, I'm sure he thinks that all the added crap on that truck is somehow enhancing its value, but when I saw it, I couldn't help but to think that he killed what little value that truck had. Don't get me wrong.....a rust free example of a dentside with the right bells and whistles should catch a fair price, and I've seen a couple near the $20k mark that I really don't think they owners were out of line (but they were REALLY nice trucks).
My issues with this truck are pretty much the same as everybody elses.........aftermarket gaudy crap, huge mudder tires for a truck he claims has been street only its whole life (and yes, I say that in light of the fact that I've got 35" mud terrains on pretty much a show truck....but I'm weird like that), a home made bumper in the back that already looks like it has a dent, the non-metal tailgate (whatever that is), the six inch lift kit for street use only (and not to argue, but anything "professionally done" just means you paid for it to be done by a legitimate shop.....that's all), and the list goes on.
I keep hoping that there will continue to be whackjobs like me that build these trucks, so that their value does begin to increase at a substantial rate like the F-series of the 50's have done. I accept the fact that I will NEVER get the money back out of my truck that I put in...........well, in reality, I'll probably never get HALF of the money.................then again.......I'll probably never get ONE THIRD the money I have into Buford..........but I'm ok with that. I built him for me, and the cost wasn't the overriding factor. Granted, if some guy comes up offering a big 'ol bucket of cash, I'll have to think it over, but I don't think I'm in any danger of that happening just yet.
Anyway, while I do like to see our dentsides go up in price, I don't like to see it happen on those examples that weren't built to a certain standard. Obviously he thinks he has more than he does, but we all suffer from that to some degree...........and some moreso than others, to the point that controlled substances, or lead paint chips must have had some degree of causality.
