Well other projects have gotten in the way of my f100. Today I got the driver door to align pretty well. But the door latch dosnt seems allow the door to seat all the way into the cab. These are the things I have tried.
1 Change body mounts to make sure cab is sitting straight.
2 Change the latch where the door latch engages.
3 Tried making adjustments at the hinge. On the door and wherre it bolts to the cab.
4. Also I have new weather stripping on these doors.
My question is this. Should I invest in a new door latch? Or buy the Altman door latch kit? The original style door latch seems to be a little unsafe. I am leaning towards the Altman kit but I would like other opinions.
could it be that your wx stripping is holding the door out? That has been a recurring problem with guys on here. If so, you have to let the stripping set for awhile with the door closed as far as you can. or you can change to the hollow type stripping that is also sold a mid-fifty.
Hey Jerry,
These doors are a PITA to get in there perfectly. I would highly recommend the Altman or bearclaw latches. The stock latch has 2 catches & if you don't get both of them the door will fly open when you hit a bump, go through a dip, or round a corner. It's scary when it happens - go with the best latches.
Remove the striker and adjust the door until it fits properly without it, then reattach the striker and adjust the latch until it latches correctly. Never try use the latch to adjust the door alignment.
