Is there a trick to moving the door on a '48-52 forward?
My pass door has a 1/4" gap in the front, and is hitting the cab in the back. The hinges seem to be seated correctly. My only thought was to shim the inboard mounting screws and try to cheat the door forward.
Thanks again.
Was the door gap that way before you took it apart? Also did you put in new pins? And last .... is the hinge that attaches to the body suffering the typical wear. I ask all that because of having gone through this very thing with my own F1 rehab. I ended up finding a lot more movement after cleaning things well, and even with new pins, the doors weren't going to line up. I finally put in bronze bushings in the fixed part of the hinges, and then doing some small bit of bending of the hinges to get the gaps to equalize. I can send you some photos of the whole process, but it is not an easy effort. The outcome was great though .... the doors fit better than when Henry built the truck. Hope this helps
Well, this truck was never actually together. I had 3 pass doors, and this was the cleanest. I had tried another, which fit well, but needed more work.
Anyway, there doesn't seem to be any play at all in the hinges. Even without the dovetails installed, it closes level, but too far back. Looking at it, there really doesn't seem to be any means of adjusting the hinges, I thought maybe i was missing something.
I would be happy to see your photos, if you have time to post them, though.
You may have to push the top hinge forward. The cab I have on my F-2 is from a low mileage firetruck and the doors didn't fit correctly. I ended up jacking out the bottom front and top rear corner to make the opening square.
Just wondering if your truck was ever hit in the front. I have seen a couple of my trucks that were like yours but both had been hit in the front. There was some denting around the topmost inner fender bolt hole just under the hood springs where the inner fender smashed into it. The front clip had been replaced and there appeared to be no damage to the doors so I was thinking of adjusting the hinges as well but the real problem is the hinge post has moved rearward.
